about

“It only takes one listen to his gauzy tunes to understand why Dream Cop works under such a somnambulant moniker." - Pitchfork

"The song's sunken, slo-mo groove and intimate, loved-up whisper being more than a little appropriate for a few days spent floating in the fog."- Transparent

"If you could live inside of music [“Daily Mirage”] would be my home."
-Get Off the Coast

When Tommy Davidson chose the moniker Dream Cop while sifting through a copy of Burrough’s Naked Lunch, he was unaware of how fitting the name would become. Raised in Washington D.C., Davidson began experimenting with any musical instrument he could get his hands on. As a Virginia Tech college student, he then began recording hazy hypnotic tunes at home, but his washed-out yet textured music would not remain in the privacy of his bedroom for long. Davidson quickly went from putting personal recordings on his Myspace to being featured on the esteemed Pitchfork Forkcast.

The multi-instrumentalist released his first single, “Basement Tapes” late this summer via Output. Not pausing for breath, Davidson follows his debut with an 7 track white label 12”, entitled Mango EP. Featuring four original tracks, and four remixes on the flip, it’s a dense inward looking listen, built upon immaculately positioned layers of sound. The foggy psychedelia of lead track “Beach City / Carol I Know” interpolates various refrains from Beach Boys songs to create what might be the creative high point of chillwave thus far, while “Marooned” and “Daily Mirage” display an ability to transgress that genre’s characteristics to create something more challenging and cerebral.

Monday 25th October marks the release of the Mango EP on Tough Love (Male Bonding, HEALTH, Spectrals). Pressed on 12” white label vinyl, the record is strictly limited to just 100 hand-numbered copies. Each of the 7 tracks are also available digitally for those unable to get hold of the record.
